How to Make Remote Work More Productive

Remote work isn’t for everyone. While there are clear benefits for those who excel in a work from home environment, others may find it challenging to maintain consistent productivity.

Regardless of which category you fall into, there’s a chance you can either use a new idea or an upgrade for your at-home setup to help boost your mood and focus at work.

Here are some tips and accessories you can use to make remote work more productive.

A Portable Screen Makes Remote Work Easier

Remote work gives you freedom, but humans are creatures of habit. The idea of being able to work anywhere is a boost for some, while others will likely try their best to closely mimic workplace settings that have been comfortable to them in the past. As they say, old habits die hard.

Your setup may already include extra monitors, but a portable screen is a good addition if you’d like to take more advantage of the “remote” portion of your work. A portable screen works similarly to a desktop screen, except it’s powered via USB ports instead of a wall socket.

It works in a pinch, allowing you to have more flexibility at working in or outside of the house. A portable screen and the freedom of movement that comes with it are excellent ways to help combat workplace fatigue.

You Need a Good Chair

A good working chair shouldn’t be taken for granted. Some people think of chairs as a matter of function and not worthy of a significant financial investment. They would, of course, be wrong.

If you’re a remote worker, that means you’re going to spend hours and hours sitting. A good chair, preferably one with excellent lumbar support, is going to make those hours more bearable in your dedicated workspace

If you’ve been sitting on a bar stool, a tent chair, or a basic computer chair, an upgrade will be a big boost for productivity.

Remote Work Requires a Routine

Humans love routine. You’re used to getting up at a certain time, going through your morning motions before work, a routine at work, and then whatever you normally do in the evening after you get home. This is all a steady rhythm that can change when you’re a remote worker.

When you work from home, you may need a new routine that fits your current working conditions.

An easy way to do this is to simply maintain the same morning routine you had when you had to commute to work. You’ll of course have some extra time since you don’t have a commute, but you can substitute that time with eating breakfast or doing some stretches before you clock in.

As you get more comfortable, you can make whatever changes you need. Your new routine will phase out your old routine before you know it!

Maintaining productivity and focus in a remote work environment is an ongoing process that will require experiments and adjustments. But, by investing in the right tools and establishing a consistent routine, you’ll set yourself up for success at both work and at home.
